Greetings!

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Munich, the dancers worked hard and were left with an idea of what my format has to offer. I want to thank the Sponsors Monika and Ludmilla for putting together such a positive workshop and performance. It was a wonderful way to begin sharing my format in Germany. Now I am on my way back to Germany, this time to Hannover and I look forward to continuing to spread the glute squeeze craze all over Germany!

Halloween was a joy....Isabella pulled off being a little devil with no problem. I was happy to share this day with her before going back to Germany. Now as soon as she comes down from the sugar high.......

After Germany I go straight to Toronto and looking forward to our first Certification Testing in Canada. Looking forward to seeing all the returning students from last year and some new faces as well.....not to mention my wonderful sponsor Audra!

So this month enjoy time with family in preparation for the holidays and Happy Thanksgiving!

As far as I can remember, we could never pass an antique store without just “a quick peak”.  As a child this was so irritating since I did not appreciate the art and history behind each painting, statue, or piece of furniture.  My mother was a collector and at times would even day dream of having an antique shop herself.  Her main influences were anything that had an “Oriental” theme.  Oriental was an influence from the Middle East that was used in art and architecture in the 20th century.  It all seemed to work really well with our lifestyle since being a belly dancer was also very “Oriental”.

It wasn’t until I was a teenager that I noticed that our house and the condition of the house were getting in the way of my social life.  Our living room was more of a show room with amazing art and beautiful mother of pearl tables that sat along embroidered chairs and an amazing chaise from the Victorian era.  We never lived in the living room and each day we would only just walk through the living room on a small path that was set out by my mother lined with books and articles that were her supporting material used while writing her history book.

How to Choreograph

It was pushing 4:30am and I was sitting in my room with choreography notes and emotional perspective writings sprawled on my bed and on the floor.  The workshop began in just a few hours and I was up all night consumed with this process.  I was determined to accomplish the task at hand, which was to choreograph ¼ of the dance I was working on and I promised myself that I would not sleep until it was done.  This was my third round at going through Suhaila’s “How to Choreograph” lessons and I wanted to get past the barriers I found myself against the first two times.  I had so many ideas that every time I choreographed it took me too long to complete the full dance because I wanted to make sure I committed to the movements that represented the music the best, and I never felt like I was done, I always felt like I could do better.  Then I realized I was going to always feel like that and I was never going to complete anything if I kept on with that mentality, so for this assignment my focus was just doing it.  So after changing my song three times, then changing it back, I found myself having to fight my mind from interfering and just let my body and intent choreograph the dance.  The next day with only a half an hour of sleep, I felt exhilarated.  Because I got past barriers and accomplished what I set out to do and that held me exempt from feeling the lack of sleep.
