The Suhaila Dance Company (SDC) is under the artistic direction of Suhaila Salimpour. Founded in 1996, the Suhaila Dance Company is comprised of some of the most highly trained dancers in belly dance. Participation requires current or pending SSBD Level 4 certification. SDC is comprised of Senior Dancers and Members. Senior Dancers are selected by Suhaila Salimpour for an entire year or season and selected by-invitation-only; senior Dancers also guest direct and present material to the Repertoire Ensemble and Certification Collective. Members are selected by-invitation-only on an event-by-event basis. (Base Requirements: Current or pending SSBD Level 4 Certification; Active participation in technique development as prescribed individually by Suhaila Salimpour; Requirements/dues as outlined by specific productions or events.)
The SSBD Certification Collective presented by Suhaila Salimpour
Suhaila Salimpour created the Certification Collective in 2008 to provide students in the SSBD Certification Program an opportunity to work under her artistic direction on choreographies required for certification. Occasional venues are provided to demonstrate the variety of dancers in the certification program and to provide those students an opportunity to perform higher level choreographies. Participation requires current or pending SSBD Level 3 certification and is selected by-invitation-only on an event-by-event basis. Repertoire Ensemble presented by Suhaila Salimpour
Suhaila Salimpour created the Repertoire Ensemble in 2008 to provide students the opportunity to explore and perform in various styles of belly dance. Each season, the students are presented with choreographic work from Suhaila Salimpour and guest choreographers/directors. Membership in the Repertoire Ensemble is approved by Suhaila Salimpour. New members are considered in October and April of each year. Participants must actively be pursuing SSBD certification with a goal of being at least Level 2 certified. (Base Requirements: Current or pending Level 2 Certification; Eight technique classes a month; Quarterly dues paid in advance; Attendance at Repertoire Ensemble rehearsals; Attendance at special classes/workshops/events of the studio; Monthly participation at Monteros’ Student Night; Additional requirements/dues as outlined by specific productions or events.)
